Description
Twenty-six believed members of the MASSOB were yesterday arraigned before an Umuahia Magistrate’s Court charged with three-count charges of conspiracy to commit felony, membership of unlawful society and illegal possession of some materials.
Their prosecution was sequel to yesterday’s protest by MASSOB and IPOB members at Aba against the continued detention of the Director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.
Following the submissions of their counsel, Mr. Nwabueze Nwankwo and E. Nkere that the offences for which they were charged were bailable, the court granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety each who must be resident within the court jurisdiction and submission of their two recent passport photographs each.
Their application for bail was however rejected by the prosecutor, DSP O.O. Uche, who urged the court to remand them in prison custody to serve as deterrent to others.
The matter was adjourned to February 24, 2016 for hearing.
