In spite of the efforts made by the Rivers State Government to end violent killings occasioned by rival cult clashes in the state, some armed bandits have continued to attack and terrorise some communities.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, last year, granted amnesty to some repentant cultists when about 22,430 of them surrendered their arms.
