Okorocha’s community levy tears Imo apart

12:45 Apr 26 2018 Imo, Nigeria

Description
There is bitterness in Imo State following the directive by Governor Rochas Okorocha to the traditional rulers to commence the collection of N3,000 monthly levy from at least 2,000 leviable adults in each autonomous community, which amounts to N6 million.

The state government had initially, last year, announced the payment of N2,000 as community levy and mandated that those seeking admission into the Imo State University (IMSU) must present evidence that their parents or guardians had paid the levy.
