The federal government has been accused by the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, of working with security agencies to disrupt the 2019 gubernatorial elections in Rivers and Akwa Ibom states. Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Netherlands ambassador to Nigeria, Robert Petri, Wike alleged that the federal government plans to mobilise security apparatus from all other states to the two states on a later date to manipulate their elections.
