14:43 Oct 27 2021 Edo State

Description
Oza – As a result of the failed portion of Agbor/Igbanke section of the Agbor-Uromi road in Ika-South local government area of Delta State, motorists heading to Eastern parts of Nigeria from the Uromi Axis are left with no option than to divert through Oligie-Igbanke or Oza communities in Orhionmwon local government area of Edo State, to reconnect the Agbor-Asaba-Onitsha expressway.

The development which has put pressure on the trunk B roads linking the communities to Benin city the state capital and other parts of the country recently led to protests by youths of the area.

According to them, motorists especially heavy duty truck drivers diverting through their communities is destroying their roads.

They lamented that there is nothing they can do to stop them.

Recall the Trunk A Agbor-Uromi road has been rendered unpassable due to flood water from Agbor-Obi area and environ that finds it way beside Agbor Technical College to the road.

“More than one hundred trucks divert to pass here everyday; they have spoilt the road. We ask them to stop passing here but they will not agree. They pass here till day break.

“We want the government to do something about it”, Odionza of Oza community, Chief Amadin Idehen told The Nigerian Observer

The Odionza, which literally means the most senior person in Oza community maintained that they could not block the road to stop the trucks from accessing it, as only the government has the powers to do so.

He however appealed to the state government to intervene, and protect the community roads from further damage.
