A youth leader of Bomadi – Overside, Paddy Ekrika, has been reportedly shot dead by a local vigilante member in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

Following the death, a dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed on the community, even as the Bomadi Division of the Joint Task Force, the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies were put on the alert.

The PUNCH gathered that the vigilante group on Saturday stormed a joint at Bomadi- Overside community for operations, and when they got there everybody fled the scene but Ekrika stood behind.

Sources told our correspondent that the deceased was being interrogating by the vigilante team, but “suddenly one of the vigilante members shot into the air twice before he shot at the boy.

“After the shooting, the boy was rushed to Our Saviour’s Hospital, Bomadi-Overside, but he died the following day, Sunday.”

“And as soon as the news of his death filtered out, some youths of Bomadi town, led by Ebi Gadafi, went on the rampage, destroying and burning property in the community, including the residence of the vigilante member that allegedly killed the boy. The community hall and others were also touched.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the killing.

“It is true but the situation has been put under control and normalcy has been restored in the area. Investigation is ongoing,” he said.
