Council boss campaigns against recurring fire incidents in Delta State

12:03 Feb 1 2022 Delta State

Description
Worried by the recurring fire disasters in markets and some business locations in Warri and environs in the Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, the Chairman of the Local Council, Dr Michael Tidi, on Monday embarked on an aggressive mobilisation campaign, offering precautionary tips to immediately put a halt to the dangerous trend.

Recall that between the first week of January and January 31 this year, not less than 10 identified cases of fire outbreaks were recorded in Warri metropolis alone, destroying valuables running into millions of naira, with its negative psychological effect on the victims.

Dr Tidi, while flagging off the Local Government’s extensive campaign against the recurring fire outbreaks in Warri on Tuesday noted that the exercise would include transit campaigns as well as strategic engagements with community and opinion leaders.

The Council Chairman advised traders and business owners to switch off all electrical appliances at the close of business daily and admonished all residents of Warri South Local Government to apply the same measure while leaving home for work, school and other business concerns.

He specifically warned against bush burning, setting up fire in refuse dumps, making phone calls in petrol and gas filling stations, disposing of leftover cigarettes indiscriminately, and ensuring proper safety of marketplaces, particularly at the close of business.
