One person was killed when gunmen attacked Omuobizu, Ibaa community, in the Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Community sources said the attack, which occurred on Saturday, involved a disbanded vigilance group, known as OSPAC, and a newly formed local security outfit in the area, identified as EMOVIS.

A source said, “The disbanded vigilance group, OSPAC, has been factionalised.

“Don’t forget that when the Enuoha LGA Chairman, Dr Chidi Lloyd, assumed office, he disbanded all vigilance groups in the area.

“He later set up a new vigilance group called EMOVIS. What I don’t know is if the split of the disbanded OSPAC is linked to the attack on Saturday. But one person died.”

The acting spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

Iringe-Koko identified the victim as one James.

She said, “Yes, we are aware. One person died and calm has returned to the area. Though no arrest has been made, an investigation has been launched to find out the immediate and remote causes of the attack.”
