Panic over deployment of Ebubeagu in Imo State

10:26 Feb 14 2022 Imo State

Description
Despite its unofficial launch, the Ebubeagu security outfit proposed by the South-East Governors to tackle insecurity in the region has started operation in Imo State.

It was gathered that the security outfit has been deployed to different parts of the 27 local government areas particularly areas suspected to be operational bases for the Eastern Security Network(ESN), militia wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

But Ebubeagu members had reportedly launched attacks in areas suspected to have the camps of ESN.

However, it was gathered that the group has been causing serious panic in most communities in the State.

On Monday, there was pandemonium at Awommamma market in the early hours as the traders hurriedly shut down businesses following the fear of Ebubeagu.

Awommama, Akatta, in Oru East Local Government Area, Umuoke, Atta, in Njaba Local Government Area, Umutanze, Okporo in Orlu Local Government Area, Orsuihitteukwa and Amannachi in the Orsu local government area are some of the areas the Ebubeagu members are operating in.

Confirming their presence, Imo Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said the security outfit has started operation in the State though it has not been launched.
