NBC Tasks Abia, Imo On Peace

15:51 Mar 30 2022 Abia State and Imo State

Description
Director-general of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Alhaji Adamu Adaji, has called for peace between Abia and Imo States over their boundary disputes.

He made the call in Abuja yesterday during a joint meeting of officials on Abia/Imo interstate boundary.

The meeting was among other things to resuscitate actions on the boundary and review the status of previous actions and plans on the best way towards fast-tracking the boundary definition process.

Adaji said it is currently intervening in the dispute between the two states with the determination to create a peaceful atmosphere within the boundary.

He said the boundaries between Abia and Imo States are flashpoints hence the need for people to nurture the idea of peaceful coexistence and appreciate what boundaries are meant for.

“We are here to review the past and compare where we are and where we need to be. This is the first time since 2002 we are brought here to the board of the boundary commission,” Abia State deputy governor, Oko Chukwu said

The deputy governor/chairman, Imo state boundary committee, Professor Placid Njoku, said the mission is to find peace.

“Finding solutions to our problems of interstate boundary with Abia State is our concern. I have sent some letters to him and there was no response. So, that’s why I decided to bring the matter to the commission.”
