There was pandemonium at Uti junction in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State on Sunday as gunmen shot dead a policeman conveyed on a motorcycle, and escaped with the service rifles on him.

Witnesses said that the motorcycle rider was also fatally injured in the shooting incident which occurred at 11am in the morning.

The PUNCH gathered that the deceased policeman was carrying two rifles, one for his colleague who was not on duty when he left the post, while the other one belonged to him.

It was also gathered that passersby and onlookers resorted to scampering for safety as they witnessed the shooting incident.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
