There was tension at Itam Market in the Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State following the murder of a tricycle rider by a truck driver on Sunday, 18th December 2022.

Trouble started when the Hausa truck driver, while trying to negotiate space to park for easy offloading of his bags of rice, was obstructed by the tricycle operator and tables used by traders to display their wares, resulting in a traffic snarl.

It was gathered that in the ensuing confusion, the driver climbed down from his truck with a machete, which he used on the tricycle rider, who died due to excess blood loss.

Hoodlums were said to have used the opportunity to loot the rice and burn the truck, as the driver fled the scene.
