Description
The crisis in the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has escalated following a strong rebuttal by the majority of the State Executive Committee (SEC) against a petition seeking the removal of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
In a letter to APC National Chairman Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, SEC members distanced themselves from the petition, describing it as baseless and unauthorised by the committee.
They accused State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie of acting unilaterally in filing the petition without approval.
The petition, dated March 17, 2025, accused Morka of abuse of office, particularly regarding his comments on the Delta APC Leadership Council and the alleged declaration of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as the party’s leader in the state. However, SEC members countered these claims, stating that Morka’s remarks aligned with the National Working Committee’s (NWC) position, which has not endorsed the council’s formation.
Rather than endorsing Morka’s removal, SEC members turned their criticism toward Sobotie, accusing him of incompetence, dictatorial leadership, and alleged financial compromises with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They claimed he has failed to convene SEC meetings or consult party leaders on key decisions.
Calling for disciplinary action, the SEC urged the NWC to suspend Sobotie, warning that his leadership threatens the party’s unity in Delta State. They reaffirmed their support for Felix Morka, commending his professionalism and commitment to APC’s ideals.
