Hundreds of farmers from various communities in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State have staged a protest against the alleged invasion of their farmlands by a private firm.

The affected farmers, hailing from communities such as Akinboni, Idogun, Ajana, Ejudokun, Ajana Aba Inisa, Orita Aratumi Ajaye, Araromi Oladapo, Bolorunduro Idi Oro, Owobambo, Ago Imole, and others, gathered in a peaceful demonstration on Sunday to express their concerns.

With leaves in hand and chanting various solidarity songs, the protesters marched, holding placards with messages like “Say No to Farm Destruction,” “Justice for Farmers Affected by Land Destruction,” and “Don’t Destroy Our Means of Livelihood.”The aggrieved farmers called on Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to intervene and address their plight.

“We are appealing to the state government to allow us to pay any dues if necessary, but we want to retain our farmlands,” he said.

Another protester, Mr. Ajibade Olusola, shared his frustration, noting that the alleged invaders had repeatedly encroached upon their farmlands.
He emphasised the need for urgent government intervention.

“Over 10,000 farmers in the affected forest reserve participated in a recent data capturing exercise organized by the Ondo State Government. Yet, we are shocked to hear a private company claim ownership of our land,” Olusola said.

“Honestly, we are not happy about the invasion of our farmlands. We have nowhere else to go. That is why we are pleading with Governor Aiyedatiwa to intervene and save us from this unfortunate situation.”
