Description
TWO persons have been reported killed in Ekori, Yakurr Local Government Area in the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State following a clash between supporters of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and the Labour Party in the area, according to mycrossriver.com.
The crisis according to an eye witness started on Monday afternoon when the Labour Party candidate for the Yakkur/Abi Federal Constituency, Dr Alex Egbona, immediate Past Chief of Staff to Senator Liyel Imoke who was scheduled to visit Ekori as part of his campaign tour to solicit for votes for the April election was barred by youths from entering the community.
Ekori happens to be the home of the incumbent House of Representatives member, Rt Hon Bassey Eko Ewa who is seeking for a third term to represent the area on the platform of the PDP but is being fiercely challenged by the Labour Party candidate.
Our source said the planned visit of Labour Party’s candidate allegedly angered some youths in the area who allegedly barricaded the road leading to the community which infuriated the Labour Party supporters who confronted the PDP people and a fight erupted .
