Description
– Over 200 thugs invaded the secretariat of the Oredo local government area of Edo state over a court judgment – Justice Esohe Ikpomwen had reinstated Osaro Obazee as the council boss – Sweet Ikponwmosa allegedly hired the suspected hoodlums to prevent Obazee from going back to office Over 200 thugs invaded the secretariat of the Oredo local government area of Edo state over a court judgment, which reinstated Osaro Obazee as the council boss.

According to Sahara Reporters, Obazee was sacked last year over alleged inability to pay salaries without proper explanation, illegal employment, diversion funds, lack of due process in the award of contracts and violation of due processes among other reasons. However, Justice Esohe Ikpomwen ruled that the sacking of the council boss was unlawful and did not follow due process. Meanwhile, all actions at the council taken during the period of the court processes were declared as illegal and void. On Friday, April 15, the thugs gathered around the secretariat, waiting for Obazee to arrive the office. Sweet Ikponwmosa allegedly hired the suspected hoodlums to prevent Obazee from going back to office. However, she denied hiring the thugs and said that they were concerned Edo people who were out to prevent the destruction of government properties. Ikponwmosa added that she would leave office 21 days after receiving notification from the court. Obazee, in his turn, said he would officially resume work after getting a certified copy of the court judgment. Earlier this week, the thugs wearing military camouflage broke into the residence of King Amalate Turner at Opume in Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa state. The gangsters reportedly ransacked the palace, destroying furniture, electronics and other property worth millions of Naira.
